This 6 unit online training program provides entry level students and technicians a solid foundation to off-grid, solar electric (PV) system fundamentals -- the skills needed to design and install small PV systems and be competitive in the PV workforce.
Students will learn about common solar applications, electrical basics, testing circuits with multi-meters and wiring PV circuits. Lessons also provide opportunities for students to explore the physical and electrical characteristics of PV equipment and learn how to integrate solar modules, charge controllers, batteries, and inverters. More advanced lessons focus on PV system design and installation.
Program Overview
6 Units | 105 hours
-
This entry level training provides a solid foundation to DC solar system fundamentals. Explore all the possibilities of different solar applications from small solar lighting systems to large village microgrid system. (10 hours)
-
Intro to Small System Fundamentals - Explore the components and flow of electricity in small, off-grid PV systems. (20 hours)
-
This training provides students an opportunity to build upon the skills developed in the U1 and U2 classes and explore larger, more complex DC-only solar PV systems. The class will cover series and parallel PV wiring, more advanced battery topics, and the use of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charge controllers. (20 hours)
