Women are extremely underrepresented in the renewable energy workforce, especially in the developing world. Remote Energy’s Carol Weis has been providing specialized, solar-electric training and workforce development programs for women in developing communities worldwide for the last 15 years. She presented her findings, Women-Specific Training Programs for the Development of a Renewable Energy Workforce at the The 9th IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference (IEEE GHTC 2019) in Seattle, WA, USA on October 17-20, 2019. This presentation included a case study of the work she did in Kenya focusing on women-specific training, providing insights on how to increase the number of women holding technical jobs in the solar sector, and the programs Remote Energy are piloting with their women-specific educator’s program.
