Daphin Juma, Instructor

Daphin is an Electrical Engineer at KETRACO, a power systems utility. She is part of the team that oversees electrical installation, testing and commissioning of high voltage substations. She has successfully completed six high voltage substation projects in the last five years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and is a certified Class B electrical technician.

Prior to joining KETRACO, Daphin worked as an electrical installation sub-contractor in Nairobi and Machakos. She was in charge of design, installation and commissioning of low and medium voltage installations. She has completed several projects in this capacity.

In 2015, she was trained as solar technical trainer by VOCTEC through the Arizona State University’s programme in Strathmore. She resolved to pursue Solar T3 accreditation with Kenya’s Energy Regulatory Commission. Subsequently, she co-founded Oaktree Lights Limited to focus on solar energy projects.

Daphin possesses a valuable blend of leadership, creativity and hands-on engineering skills. Her passion is to provide sustainable renewable energy solutions to off-grid communities. In future, aims at owning a world class solar installation company and starting up a technical college for women.
